Ms. Gwendolyn Ann Leake Walker of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at the age of 82. She was born on October 27, 1936 to the late Percy F. Leake and the late Martha W. Brandon.

Gwendolyn was educated in the Public Schools of Wake County. She attended Washington High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Following high school, Gwendolyn relocated to Harlem, New York, where she worked for many years in millinery and dress shops. After returning to Raleigh, she worked as a caregiver for many families, and after the death of her last employer, she returned to Harlem to care for her ailing aunt, Elizabeth.

Gwendolyn was a member of Wake Chapel Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina until she moved to New York. Although she was no longer physically able to attend the church, she remained steadfast in her faith in the Lord and served Him until her passing. For the last two years Gwendolyn was enrolled with the Senior CommUnity Care of North Carolina where she made several lasting friendships. Gwendolyn was a wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her precious memories; her two sons: Mr. Nicholas Leake (Doris) of Augusta, Georgia and Mr. Jarvis Chalmers, Jr. (Tracy) of Raleigh, North Carolina; one daughter, Ms. Jacquelyn M. Chalmers of Raleigh, North Carolina; five granddaughters: Ms. Rodnesha Leake, Ms. JoVon Buchanan, Ms. Brittany Chalmers, Ms. Nichelle Green, and Ms. Frankie Brown; and one grandson, Mr. Anthony Griffis; five great-grandchildren: Janiya Buchanan, Malcolm Buchanan, Brayden Norman, Maximus Green, and Marcellus Green; one sister, Ms. Mary Jo Counts of Mashpee, Massachusetts; one niece, Rita Counts-Sorenson, and one great nephew, Christian Sorenson; three aunts, two uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the C.A. Haywood Sr. Memorial Chapel, 2415 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh NC at 12:00PM with visitation preceding the service at 11:30 AM.

Public viewing will be held on Monday, October 5, 2018 at Haywood Funeral Home from 2-8PM.
