Clarice James

"Mrs. Clarice James was born as the oldest daughter to Clarence and Annie Harris on April 2, 1927. She was the beloved matriarch of the James and Harris families. Thankfully, her surviving family: sister, Edwena Davis; son, Lawrence James; daughter, Pamela James; grandchildren, Velton L. James, III, Nicole James and Odofoley Oquaye; great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews will continue to be living testimonies to her presence and impact here on earth. Prayerfully, her husband, Velton Lloyd James, Sr.; sister, Estelle Martindale; daughter, Brenda Joyce James; and son, Velton L. James, Jr. were able to receive her in the afterlife.
Clarice was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. When she graduated high school from Jane Addams, she quickly started a family and had all four of her children by the time she was 25 years young.
As a homemaker, Clarice had to be very resourceful. She made sure that her children were well taken care of and there was a homecooked meal every night. As the children grew up and moved out on their own, she gained a newfound independence and began exploring the world in a tremendous way. As an avid traveler, she went on several cruises throughout the Caribbean, visited the mountains of North Carolina, and regularly spent time in Atlantic City. Gambling at casinos was one of her favorite pastimes.
In addition to travelling, she thoroughly enjoyed reading and watching movies. While she was not the best at identifying the actors in the films or recalling the plots entirely, one of her favorite phrases was, “That was a good picture.”
Mrs. James passed away at Rex Hospital on Saturday, August 4, 2018. She is loved and will be missed immensely."
