Laverne R. Currie



Laverne Rene Currie, daughter of the late Burnie Currie and Pauline Edna Currie, was born on August 4, 1962 in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. She was educated in the Bladen County School System and attended East Bladen High School. Laverene furthered her education and graduated with a degree in Accounting from Wake Technical Community College.

In her youth, Laverne joined First Baptist Church of Elizabethtown where she faithfully played the piano for the youth choir for many years. She had a great passion for singing and it was often said that she had the voice of an angel. Her other passions included traveling, reading and puzzles.

Laverne entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Pruitt Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Laverne, the youngest of seven children was preceded in death by her parents Burnie and Pauline Edna Currie, paternal grandparents Burnie Currie, Sr., and Lou Etta McCrae Currie, maternal grandparents Merman Cooper and Charlie Edna Taylor Cooper, brothers Burnie Calvin Currie and Jimmy Alford Currie, and two sisters Deloris Edna Currie and Barbara Jean Currie.

Laverne leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories two sisters, Ruthanne Currie of Garner, NC, and Diane Washington (Carl) of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the C.A. Haywood Sr. Memorial Chapel, 2415 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh NC at 1:00 PM with visitation preceding the service at 12:30 PM.
