Andrew Jackson Lassiter was born in Conway, NC on April 19, 1937 to Isaiah and Maggie Lassiter. Reared in Emporia, Virginia by his beloved mother and stepfather Johnny Joyner, he was the eldest of his eleven siblings. He received his elementary and secondary education in the State of Virginia Public School System. Having a desire to see and experience more, he relocated to New York at the age of 16, where he would further his education in Real Estate by learning from some of New York’s finest brokers. He obtained his first building in New York before the age of 20, and because he was so young they didn’t want to close; however, they did. Over the next 50 years, he bought and sold numerous properties and employed and taught hundreds of people the business of Real Estate. After obtaining his first property, he met and married the love of his life, the late Jessie Harris Lassiter. God blessed this beautiful union with six children, Osmond, Darryl, Angela, Anthony, Ivan and Ethyln.

Andrew Lassiter specialized in and processed FHA loans and foreclosures. He was noted as one of the top real estate broker due to his top sales within the State of New York. One of his greatest accomplishments was being Realtor of the Month, 12 different times. He sold and rented various properties in all five Boroughs of New York; this was unheard of, that’s how good he really was. People all over New York requested his services. He sold a home to James Brown in Jamaica Estates and he was also inspirational in getting loans for performing arts cultural centers. Many entertainers came to him to buy property and obtain loans. Andrew was also good as a home improvement contractor. He had a group of guys who could build porches, repair roofs, install floors or build houses, if needed.

Andrew Lassiter was known for his big smile and words of encouragement. He was a role model, mentor, devoted husband, dedicated father and showed unconditional love towards everyone.

Andrew Jackson Lassiter was preceded in death by his parents, Isaiah Lassiter and Maggie Joyner and his stepfather, Johnny Joyner; his wife, Jessie Lassiter; son, Anthony Lassiter; brothers, Pernell Lassiter and Vick Joyner; sisters, Madeline Joyner-Boyd and Rosealee Williams. He is survived by his children, Osmond Lassiter, Angela Lassiter and Ivan Lassiter, all of Long Island, NY; Darrly Lassiter and Ethyln Lassiter, both of Raleigh; grandchildren, Markia Lassiter and Darren McIver, both of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Makaila Witherspoon and TJ Witherspoon, both of Raleigh; siblings, Roberta Claud and J.C. Lassiter, both of Franklin, VA; Rosetta Joyner of Oakland, CA and Theotis Joyner (Velma) of Emporia, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, godchildren and friends.
