Simon Edmundson, Sr. was born on April 17, 1938, in Goldsboro, NC, to the late Blanche Bryant Edmundson and the late Nathaniel Edmundson. He departed this earthly life on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC. Simon was also preceded in death by one son, James Hinton.

Simon was a career Master Carpenter who was employed with John Winters Construction Company and Real Estate Management. Winters was Raleigh’s first African American City Councilman and North Carolina State Senator. Simon was a lead foreman with the Winter Construction Company, where he helped to develop the land and build subdivisions, i.e., Madonna Acres near St. Augustine’s University (formerly St. Augustine’s College) and Biltmore Hills in Southeast Raleigh, as well as the Raleigh Police Department.

Simon Edmundson, Sr. was a great husband and father, who was well-loved by his family and friends, and his laughter and fun spirit will be missed in the hearts and lives of those he touched. Simon leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Lola Mae Edmundson of the home; his sons, Randolph Hinton of Fayetteville, NC, Larry Hinton (Monique) of Henderson, NC, Sherwood Edmundson (Teresa) of Raleigh, Clifton Edmundson (Carla) of Clayton, NC, Nathaniel Edmundson (Nicole), and Simon Edmundson, Jr., both of Raleigh; daughter, Brenda Irwin (Dean) of Clayton, NC; one sister, Mary Brown of Goldsboro, NC; 20 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Hinton, wife of his deceased son James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

Funeral service 12:00 noon Wednesday February 28, 2018 at the CA Haywood, Sr. memorial Chapel preceded by an 11:30 AM visitation. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
