Helen Frances Watson



Ms. Helen Frances Watson was born April 4, 1945 in Raleigh, NC to the late Fonza Hinton Lucas. She departed from this life on November 4, 2017 at Pruitt Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility in Raleigh, NC.

Helen was reared in the Knightdale area and she attended Lockhart Elementary and High School. She later attended Kings Business College, earning her Associate Degree. Helen was employed as a Nurse's Aide at Dorothea Dix Hospital and later moved to Washington, DC and was employed with the Federal Government Department of Treasury. Upon her return to Raleigh, she continued employment with the Federal Government at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) working as a Grants Management Processing Asst. Clerk II from 1981 until her retirement in 2001. Upon her retirement, she worked with the Wake County Board of Elections and Salvation Army, volunteered her services with the Wake County Public School Library (Grandparent Reader).

Helen joined Malaby's Crossroads Baptist Church at an early age, attended First Baptist Church in Washington, DC and upon her return to Raleigh she joined Springfield Baptist Church in 1983, where she was an active member and she served in the following ministries; Missionary (president), Senior Ministry, Sunday School Class # 7, Compassionate Ministry (chairman), choirs; Missionary, Senior, Voices of Springfield, Ever Ready (Tower Rehabilitation Center), Bereavement Ministry, DORCAS Ministry, Prayer Ministry, Singles Ministry, Oratorical Ministry and attended the Women's Retreats. Helen was briefly in the Abigail Chapter #145 Order of Eastern Stars.

Helen was preceded in death by her mother Fonza H. Lucas, daughter Regina "Ann" Watson and son Alfonzo Watson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: daughters, Raquel Brown, Shelia Watson; son, Alonzo Watson all of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren, Christy Watson, Nathan Watson, Veronica Watson, Gerald Dawson, Courtney Watson, Darius Lawrence, and Vinus Humphrey; one great-grandson, Nathan Watson, Jr.; sisters, Mary Brown Ernestine Peterson, and Dorothy Harrington of Raleigh, Pattie Valentine of Rocky Mount, NC, Mildred Harrington of Garner, NC and Delores Harrington of Newark, NJ; brothers, Napoleon Harrington, John Harrington and George Brown of Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, and good buddy Johnetta Wilson.

NC Funeral service at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Springfield Baptist Church, 4309 Auburn-Knightdale Raod, Raleigh, NC preceded by a 12:30 PM visitation. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
