Obituary

Born January 19, 1946, Barbara was the first child of Harvey (deceased) and Adline Keith. She attended the Raleigh Public Schools; graduating from J.W. Ligon High School with the class of 1964. She later attended the now defunct Hardbarger Business College, successfully completeing her studies in Business and Office Machines. To keep up with the increased use of technology in the workplace, Barbara continuously attended independent classes offered at Shaw University and the N.C. Training Center. She enjoyed employment with the City of Raleigh as telecommunications Operator, Eligibility Specialist for Wake County CETA Program, International Student Advisor for Shaw University and retired in 2003 from the State Department of Public Instruction.

Prior to health and mobility challenges, Barbara served enthusiastically on numerous church ministries including secretary for Women's Fellowship, secretary for the New Disciples Ministry, Christian Education, and Adult Sunday School Teacher at Macedonia New Life Church.

Preceded into eternal rest by a precious daughter Lynda and brothers Larry and Harvey, her legacy of love will be embraced by her two sons, Travis J. Keith (Oneila) and Kirby "Pete" Cheeks both of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Jade P. Deberry (Robert) of Raleigh, NC. Her memory will also be cherished by siblings, Mildred, Hillsborough, Thomas, Loretta, Linda, Joe, and Anita all of Raleigh, NC; adored grandchildren, Tiana, Greenville, Kiara, High Point, Kiandre, Travis, and Tyniah all of South Carolina; two great-grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephews, Donna "Chelle", Yusuf, Channte, Quintin, Jessica, and Charles; and caring extended family and friends.

On November 4, 2017, Barbara fearlessly succumbed to the illness of her body and entered into eternal rest.

Funeral service at 12:00 noon Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Macedonia New Life Church, 2004 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC preceded by an 11:00 AM visitation. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
